Study Description
Findings from a study on the safety and tolerability of tributyrin in children receiving hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) show promising results. The study aims to evaluate the effects of tributyrin on fecal butyrate concentrations, gut microbiome composition, and measures of gut inflammation and barrier integrity. The results suggest that enteral administration of tributyrin is safe and well-tolerated, with potential benefits in increasing fecal butyrate concentrations and preserving gut microbial diversity. Children receiving tributyrin also demonstrated lower levels of intestinal inflammation and improved gut barrier function. Further research is needed to explore the potential of tributyrin in promoting gut health among children undergoing HCT.
