Metformin for Renoprotection in Chronic Kidney Disease
Unknown Phase 3 NCT03831464
Study Description
The RenoMet trial aims to repurpose the use of Metformin, which is approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, for the renoprotection of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The trial involves the treatment of CKD patients with progressive kidney disease who will be randomly assigned to the treatment group and will receive Metformin in addition to their usual treatment. Patients in the intervention group will be treated with a daily dose of Metformin for 30 months. Meanwhile, patients in the control group will receive placebo treatment. The study's objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of Metformin in slowing down the progression of CKD. Follow-up visits will occur every four months, and data will be collected, such as concomitant medication, clinical parameters, routine lab results, drug related problems, extra blood, and urine samples.
